The concept behind this website is to duplicate attending a forestry or arborist conference without the expense and hassle of leaving your home and office. It is designed for anyone interested in learning about trees and their management. Instead of speakers, the eight articles listed in the upper half of the right hand column on this page, will provide you with up-to-date information from researchers and leaders in our industry. Unlike any conference, Online Seminars change articles every two months. This means new information all of the time.
The biggest difference between a conference and Online Seminars is that they are free. There is no cost to join the Seminars. With the high cost of travel, airline hassle, and the time needed to attend conferences at cities around the country, Online Seminars make a lot of sense. Plus, the Seminars are available 24/7, so you can participate when time permits rather than taking travel time away from your work and family. Many Seminar members live in isolated locations so the Seminars have become their only contact with peers and up-to-date arboricultural information. Some cities have eliminated reimbursement to attend conferences and are relying completely on Online Seminars to provide continuing education for their employees. The Seminars are also popular in other countries around the world because these participants have very limited contact with professional organizations and certification credits are scarce.
At the end of each article is a ten question test for ISA Certified Arborist CEU credits or SAF CFE's for Certified Foresters, if you need them. The Archives listed to the right are previous Seminars. You may also take tests for certification credits from the Archives. The Classics contain previous articles that have been very popular and important to the profession. Certification tests are available after each article here, as well. The Topics section contains articles that cover a topic in-depth. Many of them originated as eight Seminar articles but have been updated and are now combined into one. The test at the end of each of these Topics contains 80 questions.
The Seminar vendors are companies who have products or services of importance to people interested in trees. They have been invited to have a link to their websites from the pages of this Seminar. Don't forget the Seminar vendors as you make your purchases. They need your support to stay in business and I need the vendor support to keep these free Seminars coming to you. The vendors thank you for clicking on their name at the right and checking out their website. →

I am often asked, "who am I and why do I do this?"
Although I was educated as a Landscape Architect, I have spent 35 years working in the field of municipal arboriculture. For 20 of those years I served the Society of Municipal Arborists as the editor of their journal, "City Trees". After retiring from City Trees, I missed the challenge of preparing articles and publications every two months, so Online Seminars for Municipal Aborists was born in March of 2005. The Seminars are my way of saying "thank you" to everyone who helped me and contributed to my arboricultural education in the years since.
